Now, after I have read the manga, I found there are a lot of parts in the anime which are not from the manga and vice versa. They both gradually form a different story from the same baseline.

Senkaiden Houshin Engi is all about this thing call 'Project Houshin'. Now what is the project all about?

In order to save Human World from the evil youkais, Project Houshin has been formed and a person is in charged of successing this project. He is a part of the Sennin World but yet a real sennin, he's Taikoubou, a doushi.

And what is this doushi's first reaction when he received this surprising news? "I'm not gonna do it!"

Eventually, he took up this responsibility and began his journey. By right, he should kill (houshin in this matter) the youkais listed in a scroll Genshitenson (the whole project's supervisor) gave him. The leader is Dakki, a very beautiful 17-year-old girl who'd King Chuu falling head over heels for her.

And yet, Taikoubou decided to take the short cut,

that is to group some powerful people to join him to houshin Dakki once and for all, without going through all those killing-youkai-in-the-list thing. And later, some important characters' show up like Nataku, Raishinshi, Youzen, Tenka, Hiko who helped Taikoubou in his mission.

However, there are also a bunch of mess makers

such as Dakki and her 2 sisters, Bunchuu, the loyal In Empire's minister and other youkai sennins. And gradually, the Houshin Project found it's way to another line in the story, that's to reform In Empire, to replace the current King with another one.

Throughout the anime, you'll find a lot of fighting,

conspiracy, bishojos, bishonens, supernatural powers, humours etc.you name it. But miraculously, love relationship didn't occur in this anime (despite Dakki's hynoptizing). The whole plot and story is exciting and intriguing, definitely not your usual shojo or shonen anime. If you wanna get off of some usual stuff, get this anime and see what you've just got. And yes, the ending is unexpected too!
